Introduction to Interlinking
of Sites and Pages

by Robbo

A lesson that gets through to me more and more is the benefit and
importance of interlinking sites and pages. Voltar has developed many
unique designs and ways of doing this and for good reason. It works!
As we tackle new projects built on interlinking structure and put them
to work only then we begin understanding what this achieves and the
results it brings. I hope to give a little insight to this way of building.

Take a standard free site for example. Consisting of a warning page,
main page and one or more galleries. This does several things for us.
First it seperates our content from the entrance of the site for those
surfers not old enough to enter or may have arrived on accident. But more
importantly it can triple the amount of ad space available for us to use.
And by consisting of more than one page it gives more relevance in the form
of raw information concerning our topic or theme. Keyword relevancy should be
a familiar term and can be achieved in this fashion.

There are many reasons for building this way and one is to simply
have "the next" place for a surfer to click through to if he does`nt
find your sponsor first. The reason being the longer you can keep a
surfer on your pages you have that many more opportunities at a sale.
And if not a sale then for the more advanced trading them off for fresh
traffic with a toplist or other traffic trade. Hopefully they have
clicked through to a sponsor by this point but just in case!

Another benefit of interlinking is link relevance.
Everyone loves search engine traffic and if you work to obtain it
the interlinking will only help to bring in that much more. And if it`s
the type of site or page that suits it, such as in a hub, a link back can
increase the effect. Any additional pages you link to end up getting
spidered and in many cases listed by search engines along with the
original page containing the link to it. Not many things beat one of
your full page ads leading directly to your sponsor
listed in the search engines.

Now that we have reason to interlink the question is
what to link to. If you have at least taken a look at past Voltar newbie
projects you should be familiar with filter pages that target and retarget
your surfers as well as hubs that interlink groups of sites together.
And not to mention the infamous Triple configurations which I must add
should be completed according to their design to be fully understood.
If you have not yet I highly recommend you at the very least review these
before implementing links other than those to your sponsors.
It`s not just linking any old thing that produces positive results.

If you are simply a maker and submitter of galleries you would be
well off to create a filter page to use as a link out from the bottom
of your galleries. Call it an intriguing name or use a good short text link
to it but don`t try to detract from your main ads. These things are meant to
bleed that small percentage of traffic that either is curious, not quite sold yet
or just searching for more free handouts. In the latter case you sure don`t
want to march them to more free pics. Other choices with this page
could be making it target various sub-niches of your original niche
to give the surfer exactly what he is looking for. Or perhaps generalize
again allowing your surfers to retarget themselves to their true interest.
This is a great way to find that extra sale you otherwise would have lost.

For free site builders filters can also find a place in your arsenal.
Good places for the link out are typicaly below your enter button,
the bottom of a main page or at the bottom of the last gallery.
But the ideal interlinking for free sites comes in the form of a hub.
A page consisting of ads and also links to your free sites linked through
full page ads. The free sites should then also contain a link back to this hub,
also through a full page ad, completing the loop. All points being you present
your surfers with that many more opportunities to head to a sponsor
and that is the ultimate goal.

These are but a few examples of interlinking which can vary in design
and intent and even become complex enough to become sites unto
their own. They are meant to give you more opportunities at the sale.
As you can see interlinking can make your sites stronger by making them
work together. They become an organized entity rather than a random effort.
Just be sure you still conform to any guidelines offered by the places
you submit pages to that contain these links. You can get more aggressive
the deeper into your sites you get but you would`nt want to link a circle jerk
directly off of a gallery or site you expect to be accepted at the major
link lists and thumbnail gallery posts. That just does`nt fly!

Once again the many types sites are outlined in Voltars
newbie projects and it is recommended doing them according to design
initialy for greatest benefit and understanding. Reasons may not always
be clear at first but in doing comes the undertstaning. Once you understand
the workings you can then better build for your own specific needs. So get
interlinking and don`t send your surfer to someone elses sponsor.
Send them to one of yours!

The design and concepts behind hubs, filter pages and other useful and
profit increasing sites can be found in Voltars Newbie Projects. This article
is meant to give an initial summary of interlinking concepts and is by no means
a tutorial for their construction and implementation. For more detailed information
