Let's Face Facts! Times are HARD-- and getting harder. Webmastering was once a simple matter (or so I'm told!) of slapping a couple dirty pictures on a web page, hanging a sponsor banner or two, then sitting back with a smirk and a brew as the Brinks Truck pulled up with those big fat checks! Well, NOT ANY MORE!!! No No NO! IT'S a JUNGLE OUT THERE! We've got to find a way to be more competitive every day. We've got to build smarter sites which burn the least amount of bandwidth, display the minimum number of banners so we qualify to be listed on the LL's, and still show enough 'Personality' to stand out (possibly even make a SALE) amidst the veritable SEA of SMUT which now drowns the Net. One affordable, accessible, and EASY way of putting your distinctive stamp on every site is through the creative use of BACKGROUNDS!

Where do I put the Image? All it takes is an image! You place it in the BODY TAG of your page like this: background="image.jpg" The important point here is that you keep the weight of this image as small as possible, preferably under 4K so as not to add weight to your page. Running your image through a program like: SuperJPG Quality Value 15 can turn almost any image into an interesting and fast-loading BACKGROUND. Can I Make my own Background Image? Any image on your hard drive can be manipulated into an interesting background. Simply place the image in the body tag as per above. If you have a SCANNER, anything and everything can be a background source. Corners and Pieces of things; the edge of that label on your Catsup bottle or a piece of an old postcard, are your tools! YOU CAN'T, OF COURSE, SIMPLY STEAL IMAGES. But you can optimize (I use SuperJPG) and customize (I use Adobe PhotoDeluxe)just about any image you have into an attention-grabbing background.
