Happy Hump day everyone. I'm trying to install some scripts on a new site today. Seems like I'm running into glitches every step of the way! Things that I know should work just like that are crapping out on me.

hehehe, Maybe I should take a nap and get up on the other side of the bed!

Hey hey hey VNWR!!! Gosh I feel like I've been gone forever. How is everyone? Life has been hectic to say the least, 10 million things to do it seems.

All the fruit trees sound wonderful. I'd love to have a little orchard with my fav fruit and nuts growing... maybe someday :)

morning everyone...

yea and robbo, remember this doesn't cover nudes at all or even those doing simulated sex acts(those you just have to put up that its not needed a 2257 info)..only those depicting sex acts..so basicly hardcore...according to it..
and if they think all the extra book keeping isn't going to cost over a 100 million in a year they are nuts too...

Hi Sare! Sorry I hid the link in my tagline to not be too obtrusive. And you thought I was just baiting spiders again! LOL

Yeah the record keeping would be the ultimate in anal. And as written there are privacy concerns, logistical issues and other odds and ends that ned to be re-addressed. But documentation down to pic urls. Could you imagine them spidering every pic on the net and each new one as it`s added. Nextt thing you know the government will be asking to allow them hotlinking access. For purely legal reasons of course!

yea i just read thru it...
defintely some points of contention...

and this section of it..
----
(b) A producer who is a secondary producer as defined in Sec.
75.1(c) may satisfy the requirements of this part to create and
maintain records by accepting from the primary producer, as defined in
Sec. 75.1(c), copies of the records described in paragraph (a) of this
section. Such a secondary producer shall also keep records of the name
and address of the primary producer from whom he received copies of the
records.
----

which covers webmasters, now callled secondary producers...along with it telling how to keep records in later parts of it basicly says we get the info and records from the content places we buy from..keep those records and a copy on line linked from main urls and the like and we are covered...with exceptions for anything before 1995...which is alot of content...

even if it were not contested(which i think it will be big time)...it's not the sky is falling that so many predicted it would be...
but a heck of alot of record keeping..

Evening All...

QOTD...all over the map! Somedays, zilch...other days...YUM! And doesn't seem to matter which day of the week it is. Actually, yesterday was a strong day for sales...today is mediocre...so far...hehehe

Japamor, I run with 12 recips per page...all text...neat and tidy...have no troubles getting listed :)

I've got orange, grapefruit, tangerine and lady finger banana trees. Oh, and a couple fruit trees I haven't been able to ID yet...lol.

Those lady finger bananas are tasty lil suckers though!

evening everyone...

japamor..personally i think a table of 9 recips is about right...12 is kind of pushing it, definitly pushing it if you use graphics..
between 6 and 10 is the accepted norm..

Jojasa, i thought about a pear tree..but them stuck to the apricot..it's actually a dwarf apricot so it'll not get taller than 15 feet..
and the grapes are because we like grapes :) i'm not much of a wine drinker...

Evening!

Q of the day update. Looks like tuesday was a banging day for me so far today. Monday was a bust. Still says something for our beginning of the week observations.

Japamor 12 is usually fine with most places as long as it looks okay. I`ve seen examples of well more than a dozen recips looking good and a half a dozen on another site that just looked like crap. I myself recently tried what I called a power mirror where I used 12 text recips. It was widely accepted and I`ve heard some list owners say they were for it if it looks decent with better hope for spidering and traffic to the recips. I`ve also seen some people talk of using 15 succesfully. I think more or less it all in the way you create it.

I need to attend to the herd here for bedtime. I`ll be back in a bit.

Anyone got any thoughts on putting 12 Recips on a free site. Would many LL's object?
Thanks in advance.

Hi all!

I`m kicking around the house today. A little low on sleep and feeling it. Todays cloudy skies and cooler temps are not helping matters.

Jojasa there are quiet a few pear trees in this area. One of my favorite parks is an old orchard where in season you can go and get all the apples and pears you want! No gooseberries that I know of but there are currants around here so there are probably gooseberries too. Mullberry trees are a unique but rewarding find too.

Time to get dinner going soon.

good afternoon world

going to make some wine Voltar?
I know this area doesn't seem like the right climate for them, but I remember when I was growing up in southern Illinois, one of our neighbors had grape vines in his yard. They did well too. He also had a pear tree, something you don't see very often anymore. and gooseberries, I bet not many people here even know what gooseberries are anymore.

Hi Bill!

Yeah I like grabbing a header or whatever and creating a gallery like that. Then it`s a whole new custom gallery in a way!

Graphics programs do it all. The question is why are you doing it. Design reasons...some tgps require thumbs above a certain size. As long as your effort does`nt outweigh your earnings from it your okay. Can you tell I hate screwing with pictures on an individual basis? :)

or like most sponsor galleries..made from cookie cutter stuff, you can just grab thier header/footer and middle text..and center the content on the page...
gettign rid of alot of extra coding you will find of those galleries will help you toons too...makes the pages load faster..as more often or not sponsor generated code for pages have errors..not knocking any one sponsor it seems none of them can really get it right..fpas and galleries are the most common ones they have coding mistakes on..
if i've helped one newbie fix one i've help a hundered...pretty common thing..

Message # 148034 148.78.247.10 Sat May 21 21:57:50 2005

The Reason I asked was because my sponsor has gallery templates they let you use. They have the content you can download but on the gallery templates the thumbnails have to be a certain size and by making thumbnails the width and height of the thumbnails are not the right demensions.
******************************

Or, you could do a quick edit on the template and change the height to the size you want (width might screw it up against whatever they have in the header, but height usually does not have a detrimental effect)

Once you experiment on one and figure what size to use, then just do a search and replace for the height= tag in the templates and voila, you can use regular old thumbnails again.

imho of course ;p

The Reason I asked was because my sponsor has gallery templates they let you use. They have the content you can download but on the gallery templates the thumbnails have to be a certain size and by making thumbnails the width and height of the thumbnails are not the right demensions.

Thanks for the super quick replies

Hi Bill :)

Almost any graphic software will allow you to crop pictures - photoshop, publisher, photoplus, picture publisher etc

Bill most will do it for you..picture publisher, corel draw..etc..
but for most cases, in like 99.999999% of the time you don't need them square...it's realy odd that you would need them square...
as long as you have the longest side of the thumb at 125 or above then most places will except it..providing the longest side of the full sized pic is 500 or more..

knight, good to hear man..sounds like you found something to help you..or the right combo of stuff..so the newest cpap worked?

Hello ChrityB

What is a good graphics program for that purpose?

Thanks for the quick reply

Hi VNWR :)

Bill: You need to do that manually (1 pic at a time), using any normal graphic program and "cookie cut" each picture so it's square first.

Then use thumbsplus to make them the right size (or shrink them in your graphic program if it optimises them enough).

If you don't cut them down to square first they'll look like shit :)

Helo Everyone

I usually use Thumbsplus to make a table of thumbnails which are linked to the bigger pics.
Using Thumbsplus makes the thumbnails proportionally to the bigger pics...but what do I use if I want to make the thumbs 125x125 regardless of what proportioned the big pics are?

Thanks

Bill

It must be nice everywhere from the sounds of it even here in the high desert country. Put in 100 strawberry plants, cut some grass and getting set to put out some more trees. My good days countinue on, yes!

Hi!

I did some more tilling in my garden. A little more rain or watering and it will be ready to plant. We may get some showers today. I`ve still yet to get some deck stain though!

I also see there are some links to be changed with one of my sponsors. Just a few sites dropped but darn one of them worked nice for me! Ah well no biggie. You might want to check your sponsors..I did`nt see an email though may have missed it.

I actually went out for a bit. Took a ride, hit the store and visited a friend. Got my ass out of this chair anyhow!

Voltar I think the Memorial day week is looking ripe for planting! I got enough room for a few tomato plants and whatever else we choose for the other half. Almost time for some veggie sex sites huh?! hehe

oops, user error... lol.

Savanah, SC is the charming town with the paper mills. Charleston is near the coast and very rich in history and ambiance. There's even a haunted house tour that my daughter loved when she went there.

Well let's see Frogg...

If you like nature, the beaches are great. Myrtle Beach (SC) is very commercial and there are many interesting things to do when you're not lounging on the beach. If you like a less touristy thing come up to the NC Outer Banks. Swimming is not great (because of the undertow) but the scenery is fabulous. The NC and SC Mountains are beautiful especially in the fall. There are quite a few caverns you can visit, gem mines, Grandfather Mountain, and the Cherokee Indian Reservation which has some nice attractions.

If you're into bright lights and big city excitement definitely visit Atlana, GA your neighbor to the South. If history is your thing you'll find Kitty Hawk and the Wright Brothers Museum at the Outer Banks, Williamsburg, VA isn't too terribly far and extremely fascinating, as well as Old Salem (the original Moravian settlement in NC) in Winston-Salem. You can also see The Lost Colony (an outerdoor drama about Virgina Dare and the first NC settlement) in Manteo on the way to the Outer Banks and Unto These Hills a drama at Cherokee, NC.

If you like amusement parks, there's Carowinds in Charlotte, NC, Kings Dominion north on I-95 near Virginia. Six Flags Over Georgia was one of the cleanest and nicest park I've ever visited.

For architecture and ambiance Charleston, SC is an excellent city to visit (I will warn you though one of their main industries is paper and the mills stink but the town is charming and full of history.)

There's also the Battleship in Wilmington, NC, and quite a few aquariums, museums and state parks scattered across both states.

Daaamn, I think I've lived here too long, lol. Seriously, both states have websites with links to all types of places to visit you might find interesting, I would check them out. :)

Well alright then... As usual a Frogg rears his totally not ugly head and gets answers from this board. Nice. Very nice. Let no one say this board is weak and that knowledge cannot be found here. Else feelthe wrath of Frogg... whatever that may be.

And Phoenix, I moved into the neighboring State to the South of you 6 months ago. NC isn't too far from SC. Except in the alphabet. DAMN all those intermittent letters! Perhaps you can tell me interesting places to go (besides hell. been there. hated the wallpaper.) in the NC/SC area. That would also be appreciated. I've got a long-time sweetheart moving this way in the next few months and it would be nice to have things to do -- besides F$%^.

To all others, stay strong, party like there's no tomorrow, and make sure you shower at least once daily. No one likes stinky webmasters/webmistresses!

Grats Knight on the pinky!

AnnieB I haven't met you yet but I wish your son a speedy recovery and strength and comforting for you both!

Frogg here's a good RSS tutorial. It covers what you said you already understand but also goes into tools and validators for generating your rss feeds. http://www.mnot.net/rss/tutorial/

Volty (you're stuck with it now lol) and MrYum - that's my usual attire of the evening (only at home, lol) especially now the air isn't working. So anytime you guys are in NC feel free to drop by. ;)

Hey thanks for the "pink" Now show me the money!

I'm just kidding, actually I have been having a pretty good day starting with the pink this morning. I'll take as many of these as I can get.

Robbo I'm with you on the garden, got seeds in the ground, just hope the snow waits till September and not mid August like it can. Things need a lot longer than that to grow, its always a crap shoot here every year.

Knight congrats on scoring some pink!

Hi BlakkFrogg! I`ve seen a bunch of info at sitepronews and thier emails. May be a place to start. I`m not versed in rss feeds myself.

Speaking of home improvements I`ll be running out in a bit. I need to get deck stain and a few other goodies for my garden. Thankfuly this house stays pretty comfortable in the summer. We did`nt bother installing ac.

Good afternoon all :)

Congrats Knight...you look great in PINK!

Ouch...AnnieB...I'm so sorry to hear about your son. That's terrible...hope he heals well...and soon.

Yep Volty (lol)...it is pretty warm...today will be in the mid to high 80's. Have the house all closed up with all the ceiling fans running atm. Temperature is climbing as I type this though...and core temps on my cpu are about 20% higher than norm...

The good news is I got another contractor out this morning. New units will be installed tomorrow...so it'll be cool again!

Yea PB...this stuff is definitely pricey! The house is just over 10 years old...original units...and the previous owners didn't take care of them. Sooo, I'm changing out both the heat pump and the air handler...might as well do it all at once and be done with it. The house is appreciating like crazy...so gotta take good care of the place :)

Mmmm...panties and t-shirt...when should I be there?! lol

But now...while it's still at least tolerable in here...I better get some work done!

Hello all, once more. I'm looking for tutorials and resources dealing with adding RSS to a few new projects and must admit that I don't know all that much about it. I understand how it all works (the basics at least) but that is all.

So, if anyone knows where I can acquire a copy of RSS for Dummies, hook a Frogg up, please!

Hope all are enjoying their Friday thus far. I'm at the dayjob, but that is OK. At least I like this job and I know there's cold beer in the fridge waiting for me at home later.
