evening everyone...

yeppers mikey ...been waiting a year or better for that to happen with yahoo...

FX..yea man subdomaining 3 good generic named domains can get you the same result as 50...something to think about..
and i don't advise going the blah.domainname.com route...going the domainname.com/blah/ route works better for the SE's :)

Kays ..sounds just like what we do here all the time... :)

Good day everyone!

On the subject of subdomains!

Merlin you guys at M3 are pure magic!
And when it comes to subdomains the possibilities are endless...

The reason for my question was for a non adult project...

I hold the domain conartists.com
I'm thinking of a project would require approximately 50 subdomains...

Don't panic! I have neither the time nor the resources to pursue this project at this time and I suspect because of the scope of this project it would require a dedicated server at minimum.

I was thinking of setting up subdomains as follows

Arkansas.conartists.com
Arizona.conartists.com
Alabama.conartists.com
Alaska.conartists.com
California.conartists.com
and so on, and in alphabetical order of course.

My family and business was damaged badly by a group of con artists masquerading as paralegals...

Warning!!! Paralegals type con artists are extremely dangerous as they have access to a family or business most sensitive information. Bank accounts, tax records, savings accounts, vehicle titles, telephone and credit card numbers, land and property titles.

Much safer to use a certified attorney!
I found out the hard way.

Upward of 50,000 and not counting health considerations over the years.

I would like to give something one day back to the con artist community.

Now all I need is 50 good con artist hating cops/police organizations. 1 or 2 in each state or so! I figured by turning each subdomains over to a group in each state and let them handle how they want their web site run would be the most effective way. As for me I would place one non adult banner on each page to pay for the server time/legal expenses and whenever banners they placed could be used to help there organization or go to a charity of their choice. I figure If people have a place where they could go to see con artists faces and profiles it should take a big chunk out of their abilities...
nobody likes to admit they can be or has been the victim of a con artist, the way I figured it they can hide their identity but they can hide their faces.
(I still have to check into the legal ramifications of doing this!)

I would dearly love to kick the whole lot of con artists in their collective faces. :)

PS. I've been offered good money for the domain name conartists.com but I've decided to hang onto it for awhile longer, just in case.

Here's thinking about the future at M3.
Thanks guys!...

Hey it's that time of the week again. Newbie Nite! We're almost done and tonight is the night we start getting dirty. We'll be working on the "grey" sites tonight - filtering the surfer a bit more to find out what they want and getting just a little more forceful.

Not totally naughty, not totally nice, but we'll be narrowing the funnel and our general filtering will get more specific as we get a better idea of what our surfer is looking for.

So be sure to join us tonight at 8 PM EST (New York time) in the Max Cash chat room. To get there go to the java chat room or on IRC go to forums.maxcash.com port 7000, channel #maximumcash

One more observation,

One mainstream site I did got #1's for several keywords. However, the description on the listings are from pages done two years ago, the current pages where done about this time last year... yahoo is definetly using an old database!

Message # 126489 209.98.236.121 Wed Feb 18 16:39:27 2004

Mikey,

the 404 is/was covered, they werent lost hits, whew.. lol

If the pages 404 though, they will drop them eventually. I'm putting pages up so I dont loose the listing.

This is odd.. though... google added all my framed pages..

I have had one search term that I have been checking for three years that stays in the 50's, but yahoo sent it to 17...

I got some #1's on mainstream sites that I could never get above 20...

your right jojasa, there is hope :)

However, I have tons of pages that yahoo listed with the description of the root of the domain... that part sucks!

but, overall, I faired well :)

don't delete - stick a redirect in the page instead

if you do delete, use 404 to send em to something - that's your quick fix for now - don't worry about putting something there

Holy Cow!!! Yahoo drew from an old database.. There are pages of mine from the very beginning that I deleted because I didnt have the time to swap out links to a sponsor that went under... heck that was more than a year ago I deleted those pages...

I have to go put something up to cover the listings...

Thanks Mikeyddddd. We built that control panel from the ground up. It isn't pretty to look at, but functional :)

Thus, you don't have to worry about licensing fees nor limitted to how many domains you can load...

Robbo, if you use an existing user, you will see another folder in your ftp, one for your base domain, and one for your third level domain. You can do it like this, or maintain different ftp users for each one... whichever is right for you.

#5 - http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=famous+porn+stars&ei=UTF-8&fr=fp-top&n=20&fl=0&x=wrt

robbo, i don't try to figure them out - i just make different versions of the same page using or not using different tricks like div, noscript, comments, etc - based on the se likes/dislikes one of the versions does better on different se's

Hi merlin!

That`s an awesome tool! I have`nt set up any domains like that but have thought about ways I might use them. At least I know it will be a painless process!

I need to shower and step out for a bit if my wife would get back. I have a fish mount that`s finally ready for pickup...5lb smallmouth bass I hooked about a year and a half ago. Hardly anyone left doing taxidermy in this area anymore and a huge sportsman population!

Message # 126472 68.65.10.74 Wed Feb 18 14:32:08 2004

Robbo - correct! Just build, build, build, and when you get tired, build some more :)

100s of domains, 1000s of pages. When you get that goal done, do it again :)

In the end, your content and building style with proper, none cheating, use of text and images will overall improve your rankings in the engines.

At times you might be able to pick out a loophole, make money off of it, but keep on building because rules change.

But, content that surfers look for doesn't.

Each month a new surfer turns 18 and 21... lots of new eyeballs and credit cards monthly to make a living off of...

happy building :)

Hi all!

I`ve definitely noticed some shuffling of the search engines actually the whole past month has been wierd for me. Google has had me baffled and I am seeing more from yahoo the past few days. I`m almost ready to stop trying to figure out what they are doing and just keep on building! They are purposely fucking with our heads.

Robbo (Editor DFN Weekly)   it is better to know some of the questions than all of the answers

http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/internet/02/18/google.expands.ap/index.html

Yummy...yummy... We need seperate search engines, it helps everyone.

Also, about domains.
www.domain.com

Clients only register the, domain.com, not the www.domain.com.

Instead of www, or in addition to, you can use third level domains, as in:

section-b.domain.com
section-c.domain.com
members.domain.com

You can also go further too:

group1.members.domain.com
group2.members.domain.com

Once you own domain.com, your dns server develops the zoning of your domain as in the above examples.

The M3 Control panel makes quick use of this fun building tool to enhance your realm :)

Enjoy :)

those blog domains i bought last night are already resolving - don't go there - got popups and redirects temporarily

fx, that subdomain is working great - i defined it just as any domain using the m3 domain management tool - dns works correctly - just defined the domain, not subdomain at registrar - sweet!

Wolfe..not a problem man...see.. you post a link and people look at it and give you feed back :)
what a great place :)

I've had a coule people email me asking me something...they asked ..since we have been talking about the spiders here..how to drop links for the spiders, but have concerns about sites and such getting copied...there is no way around having people look at your sites..after all once they hit the SE's and link traded sites..they will be seen by everyone any way and a lot higher chance of people trying to rip it off..
so it's really a non issue..don't worry about it..
go ahead and drop links when you post if you want to..i have spent lots of time building up the spiders just for that.. :)

That was the site that I link most times in my link line. Kind of my AVS Link list / hub but I appreciate the input the more input I get the more chances that someday I will get one of these things built right the first time... =-)

as to the front page for the other site I'm behind like usual had to help the wife out lastnight and couldn't get back to it... I'll post it for you to have a look when I get home from the office tonight. As always thanx for all the help and patience.

Wolfe ..looked at it..looks much better...but its got that dreadful no underline code on it for links..i hate that thing..it in my top ten of the worst things a newbie can do or use...it hurts you as a webmaster to use it, reason being is that most people see an underline as something to click...in text..thus you lose clicks and you lose sales...also in the top twenty is linking all your text..you need to be a tad more creative on linking...
i know it sounds like alot, but there is a lot that goes into making sales sites sell better :)
the resonable work around for it would be to not use it..and not link the text expect for what you want to be noticed, and clicked...this works well if you don't over do it..
and try to pick a bit better contrasting colors..for some..red or orange on a orange background won't be seen very well..
but other than those small things ..much better..the text is balanced now....play with a small bit of impact in it..and you will do alright with it..

bailey..send me an email with the url to that free blog too if you don't mind..i want to peek at it.. :)

The script I'm using I found online. It's free. It had a few more features to it I liked that others didn't, it was free, and I was able to figure it out(well almost) and get it working - (except in netscape lol)If you're interest I'll send you the info.
I love the domain names btw.

************************************************

Let me know when you get it up and running :)

I will add it to my feeds, maybe give a little free traffic (very little....lol)

Also, was checking some of my links and noticed that xxx-pornsites.com main.html is 404... Did you take it down ? Was just wondering if I should take the link off the hub or if it is a temporary thing ? lolol...I don't ebven know if you know that I was linking to you :)

I have links on there to you, christy, yummeister, and a couple of others, don't know if you get any traffic from it, but they are there anyway :)

<sigh> no I didn't know it doesn't work in netscape. :( I work exclusively in ie - I kind of got into the {bad}habit of never check things in netscape. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. This is going to be a challenge to try to figure out. If it's in the script I'm using I'm in trouble, it's php and I'm flying by the seat of my pants on this. It's always something!
***********************************************

Took a quick glance... Looks like you have a </table> tag out of place near the top and then some of the table within a table stuff further down is missing close table tags...

I would give it an in depth, but don't have the time right this sec...

If this is still an issue when I get back, I will try to give it a little more in depth look see :(

My new server is about ready (woo-hoo) I Just need to get everything moved now (boo-hoo

Probably the best thing about the move was that Corey moved everything for us.... I didn't have to do any ftping or anything...

I just changed out my automated upload for bitsntits to point at the new server when Corey told me it was ready and then kept on Trucking !!!!

LOL Robbo,

The rush was... we Programmed the auctions spent months getting it just Right... Live auction not like Ebay... and all our work hinged on that 5mins while the auction lasted... if the server melted down or something broke all our work was for nothing but pissed off customers and a raging Boss... But all went smothly no complaints and the customer even wrote a raving review...

Now we have to experiment with distributing the server load better because more people next auction could cause that 38 load to go past the point that our server can handle... and finish the app that goes with it...

Hi Everyone :))

Add me to the list of satisfied M3 customers. Corey has had to put up with me too - (well that's what he gets for talking me into a dedicated server! lol)

I've been busy blogging (BTW If anyone wants to trade blog links let me know.) and doing some mainstream work. I also have a few things going on here at home so I won't be around much for the next few weeks.

I hope everyone is doing well, talk to you all soon :))

Bazz I really could`nt say. I only use processors as an affilate. Anything dialer has been spotty ofr me except one site I was promoting use to pull them in. But I did get a bit more foreign traffic than usual to them.

Wolfe I missed the gist of your last post..very cool! Bidding or selling you always get that little rush at the end! hehe

Evening everyone...

bazz..my 2 cents on it..i'm not convinced about the usage of a 900 number for it, since rebills would be an issue..
someting i'll have to look into since i do use ccbill too..

Bazz I`m not sure who your processor is but I just read about some changes Epoch made recently concerning rebills that might make it appear as chargebacks due to delayed nitofication as opposed to thier old one of real time data. Probably more efforts to conform to cc regulations.

Shoot I`m going to have to call M3server just to chat because I don`t have any problems to call about! That`s worth at least a thank you...hope you guys are having a good one!

Bazz I`ve heard a few people mention a few more chargebacks than normal also got one myself recently and usually never do. I`m not sure what if anything to make of it yet though.

WOOO WOOO
No meltdowns here... Server load spiked to over 38 when it first started But we have no melted piles of Goo... 5min live real time auction of an Ipod and it went for $251.00

Do any of you understand the anxiety involved with sitting here watching a clock counting down knowing to the auction start knowing that when it finishes months worth of work all hing on JUST 5 MINUTES...

well.... I don't do that part of it, Old Tom takes care of the server stuff so I don't ever talk to them. But.... our stuff is never down, and if there's ever a problem they fix it right away. :-) and.... Danny is a really cool person who always has a smile and hug for me in Vegas, and he's tall so he'd be cool no matter what. so yeah... they're ok :-))

The countdown is on 32 mins till our first 5min live auction. We have had members calling all morning asking to upgrade their memberships and thats just the ones who can't figure out how to do it automatically online. Will the servers hold up? Or are we going to have a pile of molten goo shortly after the auction starts? This is the big test...

Mr. Yum,

Just look at the card... if it has 2 VGA ports sticking out of the back of your computer yes... if it has a VGA and DVI port then it probably does but needs a converter plug to convert the DVI to VGA... Mine has 2 VGA and a S-Video...

We have a similar setup in the office on the test machines/ Shared storage computer one monitor and a switcher box but the switcher box switches everything with a keypressed combination monitor / keyboard and mouse to the next macine on the box... Will probably get a setup similar to that or your when I get my time to get my linux box up and running...
