Editors Note: Bailey is taking some time off from writing during this holiday season and the following is a rerun of one of her past articles that is once again just as relevant and timely as it was one year ago...besides I always liked the feng shui...Enjoy!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

A new year, a new beginning, so I thought it would be a good time for Feng Shui.

Time to tidy up your desk again. Yes, you actually move the monitor and totally clear off your desk. It’s a little time consuming but it will make you feel better in the long run.

But before you do just take a few moments and sit at your desk and make a note of what worked for you and what didn’t. If you eat at your desk, or always have something to drink there, fit it into your desk plan. Actually designate a place to put your cup or sandwich other than on top of the printer. Think about it, if you have your lunch spread out on your desk on top of some papers, you will be inclined to eat very quickly to get it out of your way. If you have it set aside in a place where it’s comfortable, you will probably eat slower and be more satisfied and eat less.

Cut down on the clutter. If you have knick-knacks or things on your desk that has been there for awhile -pack some of them away with your Holiday decorations and take them out next year(when you do, you’ll enjoy and appreciate them just like you did the first time you saw them.)

Go through all your pens and pencils-do they work? Are the pencils sharp?(remember, if you have things around you that don’t work-you can’t work. If there is clutter-you can’t think.)It’s all about the energy around you!

Now that your desk is cleared and wiped down, it’s time to put it back together and apply the ancient art of Feng Shui.

Feng Shui is the belief that everything has chi (or energy) and meaning. There are five elements used in Feng Shui; wood, earth, metal, fire and water. When these elements are balanced in your home(or desk) you have better balance in your life and career, and better health.

Chi is calmed, balanced and encouraged to flow by using colors, shapes and other elements in certain areas of your home or desk. It could be as simple as changing the color of your coffee cup.

Oh! and it's ok if you don't believe in feng shui or chi - it works for you anyway. So if it's there anyway, why not get it to work harder with these easy enhancements?

Ok now just sit down at your desk and you`re ready to start.

It is believed that everything that happens in life can be associated with nine categories(or gua) and when they are in a particular order it is called a bagua.

To form your bagua, imagine your desktop as a giant tic tac toe board.(nine boxes). Each box represents a life situation.

Starting in the upper left corner. The PROSPERITY gua. Here's where the money is. Purple is THE color for this corner. Put a jar of loose change, a calculator or anything that reminds you of wealth and prosperity here. Gold or moving objects work well too.

To the right of that gua(upper middle) is FAME AND REPUTATION. Red is the color here. Fire, lights, plants are a plus for this area. Place a lamp, candle or your business cards here, but no water, black or mirrors. Here is where you can increase your business and protect your good reputation.

To the right of that gua(upper right corner)is LOVE AND RELATIONSHIP. A very important corner to pay attention to. Not only will it bring love into your life, it is associated with all major organs of the body. (Heart=love) When you have balance here life is good. Pink is the color and for your desk a picture of you and a lover(no pics of your kids here - put them in the family section) - or put something romantic here, fresh flowers(no silk or fake flowers)even a heart cut from red construction paper is fine.

The next gua is one down(middle right) it is CREATIVITY AND CHILDREN. If your having trouble writing text - enhance this area big time! metal, white, anything round, candy, art, and bells. If you place a bell in this area of your desk it will stimulate creativity in business, focus attention, and interrupt negativity. If a bell isn't your thing a round white bowl filled with candy will do just fine. (no red or pointy items though)

Moving along (right front corner) is HELPFUL PEOPLE AND TRAVEL. Silver and Gray bring helpful people to you. Bells, water and symbols of your favorite places will be most effective here. If you want something write it down on paper, wrap it in aluminum foil, put it in an envelope and keep it on this part of the desk. Be VERY specific about what you ask for. The body part associated with this gua is the head.

To the left of helpful people(front middle) is CAREER AND LIFE path. Water, black, glass or round things will help you out here. Simply putting a black desk blotter here will help in your career. If you have a drawer here make sure it doesn't stick. It has to open and close smoothly. Also, wipe the knobs on the drawers very well and often.

To the left of careers is SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE(front left)Blue, books, lights, are what you need for skills and knowledge. Enhance this corner of your desk with a book. A thesaurus would be a good choice.

Now we come to the FAMILY gua. (left middle)Wood, green, plants and family photos . By enhancing this area you not only will improve family relationships but also your sex life. It will enhance your business and increase your income. A healthy live plant or a wooden picture frame with a family picture will do the trick.

The last gua is truly the most important. The center gua. It represents HEALTH. It touches every gua and affects it. Yellow, orange, earth tones, fruit, squares, flat object and funny stuff belong here. A yellow floppy disk covers many enhancements. A yellow stick it note or highlighter will work too.

So if your having trouble writing text put something red in love and relationship, bells in creativity, write down the help you need and keep it in the helpful people gua, put a thesaurus in skills and knowledge, some purple in prosperity and start writing.

Happy New Year Everyone!

I wish you a new year filled with good health, love and prosperity.
