Merry Christmas!

The hustle and bustle of the Holiday is starting wind down now. The gifts will have been opened and hopefully you’re settling back after a nice feast.

In the past week, in addition to the last minute shopping and all, I decided it was time to get my business affairs in order.

I spoke with my brother, who is an attorney, and filled out all the necessary paperwork. It will take a few weeks(with the Holiday’s and all)to complete everything.

In addition to setting up a business, it was the first time I told him my line of work, and it wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be. However, I had to warn him “no jokes at Christmas Dinner” some of our siblings just aren’t ready to know. lol.

His advise on setting up a corporation is speak with an attorney first. There are several types of corporations a person can set up, with a majority of people falling into one type, and some attorneys may prefer to incorporate in a certain state.

Oftentimes, you can get a free “over the phone” consultation, that can give you enough information so you can decide how to proceed.(be aware if you do get a “free consultation” you will get valuable information, NOT legal advice.)

They’re are many places online that you can also get some good info.(just type in “incorporating a business” into a search engine)

With so little time at the computer these past few weeks, I was surprised at the little things I picked up when I did get on. There were times where I’d only have about 15-20 minutes, so I’d pop on.

It’s hard to really get involved in anything in that short time, so I caught up on some reading.

I subscribe to a few sponsor newsletters and I’ve been stuffing them in a folder to read later. I decided to pull a few of them out and started to read them. I had always browsed through them, but it’s been awhile since I really sat and read everything.

There is so much valuable information and selling tips in these newsletters. Everything from picking out different colors to enhance sales, the ”latest” on SE, and places for free scripts. By reading some of these articles, I also picked up a few ideas for sites along the way. ( I keep a small notebook on the side of my computer and jot down ideas. I have the memory span of a goldfish sometimes. If I don’t write it down immediately - it’s gone! lol).

I know this is going to sound strange, but in one of the articles, a sentence was worded in such a way it gave me an idea for a site. When I was reading about colors, moods, and sales I thought of another type of site. So read through your sponsors newsletter you’ll never know what you’ll come up with.

And lastly, a note on the number of characters in a url. Some link lists have a limit on the number of characters in the url. I never even thought about that until I had one that was too long and I had to go back and make some very time consuming changes. I followed the “first domain setup” in the tutorials, what I didn’t realize was that between giving folders names that were memorable to me and had a keyword in it, some of my folder names are a bit long. I recently registered a new domain name, and I noticed that domain names are getting longer, two and three words now, often separated with (-). Be aware that every character adds up between the domain name, folders, subfolders. Just a little something to keep in the back of your mind.
