My Newbie
Two Cents Worth

What an exciting and busy month November turned out to be for me. I finally had my first sale! As a newbie, you work so hard to understand so many things. And many of those things don’t even make sense at first, and then, eventually it starts to fall into place. After I had gotten several sites up and running, I confess, I would go look at stats often. I knew it was almost impossible to get a sale only two or three weeks after putting a site up - but, the “check the stats” bug got to me. It actually started to get depressing. Work long hours and nothing, work long hours... and on and on. I was starting to feel disillusioned. Why was I doing this? Can I really make any money? How many more hours of work before I see a paycheck? In addition, as you start to learn more, there seems to be less hours in the day to get it all done. I know what I want to do, but I just don’t have the time. I was starting to feel STRESS! I also had given myself a deadline of the end of this year to re-evaluate and move on if necessary. As it turned out, I stopped looking at the stats - actually I just didn’t have the time to look at them. In the month of November, after reading on the board about the wonderful job the guys at M3 were doing, I decided to switch over to them. It was a good decision. With my old host (although I never had a problem) they just hosted my sites -period! When I moved to M3-certain features were bought to my attention, and patiently explained to me until I understood the who, what, how. Then the community NPOW came along. Even less time to check the stats. I was working even more now.

It’s not that I was working hard - but after awhile you want to see some return for your efforts. I was really starting to wonder... After working late into the night (or actually early into the next morning) and was back at the computer less than 5 hours later. That day, I decided I really needed to take a break. I took the dog for an extra long walk, and on the way back I picked up the mail. I looked at aletter addressed to me, it actually looked like a solicitation for a credit card. When I opened the letter, it was a check! At first I thought it was part of the solicitation(use this check to get $$$ off your purchase)...AND THEN IT HIT ME!! My first “paycheck”!! I had made a sale and this was my first paycheck!!! FINALLY- I now realized that my long hours were starting to payoff, and that I could make it in this business. I suddenly felt energized and enthusiastic! I actually had hubby pulled from a meeting to tell him the good news. I couldn’t wait to tell him, and everyone on the board. I consider you all my friends. You’ve helped me, listen to me moan and groan, and made me laugh when I needed it the most. I was so happy to be able to share this news with you. As it turned out, this sale came from one of the first sites I did. Although I’ve come along way in designing my sites, they are still very much “no frills”, and that site was one I liked the least out of all that I had done. But now, I was on a “high”, If I got one check I could get more. After I photocopied the check and placed it in the prosperity corner of my desk(I’m telling you Feng Shui works!!)I went right back to work. There will always be highs and lows in any business, that’s the way it is. I hope this “high” will stay with me for a long time though. One thing is for sure, I’m not going to be checking stats anymore, I’ll just wait for the check!

Just my newbie two cents worth.
