Hail and Farewell

Well, here we are. Time for a 'Hail and Farewell'.

It has often been said that the only constant thing in life, is change. We experience it every day in our personal and professional lives. With change comes apprehension and concern, worry and wonder, as well as good and bad. For me change usually means excitement and opportunity (which is the case as concerns DFN).

As some of you know, I am the product of military training. I was fortunate enough to be selected and trained as a Russian linguist with duties that included collection and analysis of intelligence data, counter-espionage/insurgence training, order of battle specialization for portions of the Soviet Army. There were other exotic duties and locales, as well as the more mundane things like painting rocks and saluting shave-tail lieutenants. Or, was that saluting rocks...... In any case, my many years of chasing Commies made me realize that the Military is a rather unique piece of work. Consider this, they can take thousands of American youth, many of whom have not completed high school, (or barely completed it), and molded them into an effective political tool and fighting force. They keep more aircraft flying, boats floating, and vehicles rolling than any other 'business' in the world. They do this with a high degree of success and low incidence of safety failures.

So, what does that all mean, Magus?

We are witnessing a very similar situation here at VNWR. Namely, we have a group of webmasters, some of whom are completely inexperienced, some doing ok, and many doing well, and are molding ourselves into an effective PORN MARKETING force. We are doing this by following sound leadership, by taking responsibility for helping others reach attainable goals, and by sharing tips and methods that have proven to work, all the while welcoming even newer folks to associate with us and attain our collective goal.

Which brings us back to change.

In the Army we held a ceremony called 'Hail and Farewell' to welcome new staff, as well as wish departing staff safe journey to their next assignments. See, the Army never let you stay too long in one assignment, so change became routine. And the number one thing that was impressed upon me was this:

No matter the changes that occur, accomplishing the mission was a constant.

So, with that said, it gives me great pleasure to accept the responsibility of maintaining the same high standard of professionalism those before me have established for the DFN Weekly. I consider the DFN to be a legacy entrusted to my care. Thank you Voltar and Wingnut for challenging me to succeed.

Thank you all for your well wishes, now go write an article!
