Wow, we're already talking about the Christmas Holidays. Where does the time go?! Time, an enemy in this business (or any for that matter). Use it wisely and it works with you, use it foolishly and it disappears without a trace. This week I took the time to do something I thought would be a waste of time to do, and it turns out it will save time for others down the road. Did that make sense?! :) Let me expain...

I was trying to submit to a LL (one I had submitted to before with no problem)but this time I was getting an error message. I wrote to the owner and explained about the error message I was receiving. I received a reply that the ONLY way I would have gotten the error message I did was if I tried to submit from a different location other than the submit page.(which I wasn't)and that I should fix the problem and re submit.

It wasn't long before I realized the problem was (once again!!) my firewall. I corrected the problem and re submitted my site and it went through. I was starting to write a quick note explaining I found the problem, and thought- "This was a problem on MY end, I figured it really didn't affect the LL at all, why add to their pile of email." but for some reason I sent it anyway. I was pleasantly surprised when I received a reply less than two minutes later thanking me!!

It seems, they weren't aware that a firewall could cause this error message, now that they knew, they could make adjustments and save someone else some time down the road. I was glad I could help out, even though it was totally accidental :) There were quite a few time saving tips that I've picked up in the past few months. One of my favorites is typeitin.

I can remember the day it was mentioned in passing on the board. I can't believe I had been doing submits by hand until I found this program. It apparently has a quirk though, using typeitin when a ftp is open, can sometimes cause it to send information incorrectly, or make it appear as if you are using an autosubmitter. Save yourself time, just close your ftp prog when using typeitin.

Then I heard about this fun thing, rather than a time saver. In a post about FPA's, Baron shared a tip he learned from Voltar about putting a twinkle in the models eye. It's done by putting a yellow dot in the models eyes to make it appear as a twinkle. I tried it out and it was unbelievable and easy to do. I was working on one pic where the models eyes were dark and shaded, the yellow dot made her look possessed, but a very pale blue dot did the trick. Applying this tip, (imho) can actually make the model look like a different person. I had so much fun with this. And I quickly learned how fast the time can go once you start. (OK so I was playing around a little making funny faces with crossed eyes and all. lol.)

Well anyway, when you stumble across something in your day that saved you time, or can save someone else some time - SHARE IT- even if it seems to only apply to yourself - believe me, someone out there is just starting to stumble on the problem you just solved.

I hope time is on your side this week.

Just my newbie 2 cents worth.
