Why Are You Here?

Why are you here?

Think about it... why are you here? What motivates you? Are you here because you're creating the Internet of the future? Are you here to be on the leading edge? Perhaps you're here to learn a work ethic? To make friends? To spend all day every day with nekkid pics?

Are you here for the money? Is it the money itself that's important, or that you can have a car that works, and a roof that doesn't leak?

This has become a highly competitive business. You know that. So... how do you succeed? What does it take?

It takes the same thing that it takes for any other business. That is, it takes the same thing as any other entreprenurial business. You - or you and your partners - are on your own. It is up to you to succeed.

I remain convinced that it's the reading which will get you to the next level. Hard work will get you a few hundred a month; its the reading that will bring you the thousands. It's in the reading that you will find the dream, the desire, and the people skills. The reading will remind you why you are here.

What should you read? Check the Self Help and Personal Development sections of your library or bookstore. Your online income is, ultimately, based on direct sales. You need to learn to sell.

Can you commit to reading ten minutes a day, every day, out of a "positive mental attitude" book? When you commit, you'll go far.

David Brink

It was a year ago yesterday, that I started "Old Tom's Reading Chain" by placing eleven books in the mail, to eleven webmasters. The books went to LadyB, tamara, Pookie, Jennifer, adm0, Pastaboy, Partsman, e-van, Porn Meister, Biru, and Wingnut2. Nearly all of those people are still around... does that tell you something?

What is the Reading Chain? Read a book, and pass it along. It's that simple! Sign the book with your handle, and pass it along to a webmaster of your choice. Each book, then, has a record of its travels. Since the chain started a year ago, Freeballer has added The Greatest Salesman in the World and its sequel. Widearea has added Cryptonomicon, which I read twice before passing it along to Barron.

It's time to add more books to the Reading Chain. Who wants one? Thanks to Bell, I have a book budget - enough for two or three more books. Will you commit to reading ten minutes a day, and see what happens?

Why are you here? Are you willing to do what it takes to succeed? Are you willing to take a ten-minute break from the nekkid pics, and read? Have you thought about what just four figures a month would do for you, every month?

Do you have one of the Reading Chain books? Send me a note. Would you like one of the books, and will you read it and pass it along? Send me a note.

I'll take ten minutes to grow... how about you?

"A mother takes twenty years to make a man of her boy, and another woman makes a fool of him in twenty minutes."
Robert Frost (1874-1963)
