Sponsors becoming
Webmaster Friendly

I know, I know, you see a post from magus and cringe. So often I put my foot firmly in the buttocks of a situation that I feel needs attention, or I step on my crank by jumping into something too soon and putting my foot firmly in the buttocks of a situation.

Now, here I come with something for the DFN. It actually started as a post for the VNWR Board and grew into more than I had anticipated. The subject? Sponsors becoming Webmaster Friendly.

The industry is changing rapidly day to day. This is not something new. It has always been that way. No other industry has such a varied application, vast product line and cross section of customers. Think about it. A top executive jacks off to computer porn, while a little blue haired lady with her vibrator is checking out the studs at "Hunks for Grannies dot com". So every day you can notice someone changing some way about something they are trying to do to get more market share.

Remember I said Webmaster friendly? Did you notice that I capitalized the word? That is because WE are the foot soldiers of the porn industry. We make the sites, galleries and hubs that lure the surfer onto the path of membership porn. We are the gold that the sponsors use to make more gold. Historically they could do just about anything they wanted to us without fear. Now we are banded together in loose affiliations that let sponsors know we are serious about being PARTNERS with them rather than fodder. But that is a whole 'nuther article.

"All truth passes through three stages.
First, it is ridiculed.
Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is accepted as being self-evident."
Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860)

Recently you may have noticed emails from your sponsors announcing $75 sign up days! $60 for all signups on such and such day! Wacky Wednesday! Freaky Friday! Stupid Saturday! All to get your attention and desire to send your traffic to them on that particular day. Having said that, are you ready for that kind of program? Are your sites made so you CAN direct traffic wherever you want? Do your sponsors even allow you to redirect traffic from a particular page rather than the site itself? Do you have email documentation from your sponsor stating that you will be paid if you redirect traffic, burst high volumes all of a sudden, or whatever effect they may notice when you do send 'special' traffic that day? All these things, and much more actually, are needed to protect your investment of time, money and ingenuity.

By the way, do you know HOW to send targeted traffic to a specific destination and change it on the fly when something goes wrong? For a start, make your own banners, try not to mention sponsor names in text links, then link them to a particular themed html with a redirect. For instance. 'Your best TITS sales text CLICK HERE' is linked to http://www.yourdomain.com/tits.htm and on the page is a simple meta-refresh, or my favorite java script:

<head>
<script language="JavaScript"><!--
setTimeout("top.location.href = 'http://where you want the traffic to go.com'",1);
//-->
</script>
</head>

When Traffic Tuesday rolls around, you merely change the url of script and the traffic goes there. I recommend that you have several 'TITS' pages and spread out your traffic during normal business, then consolidate them on the 'special' days. But remember, be certain your sponsor's terms and conditions are not violated. Talk to them. Let them know you are a professional. And remember that magus's way is not the ONLY way. Be creative, but share!
