9-11 is also my wedding anniversary. Until last year, I hadn't noticed the importance of the numbers but our anniversaries have been marked by a couple of hurricanes, earthquake warnings, storms and the like. We normally spend it quietly indoors, counting our blessings and jokingly remembering past anniversaries huddled together or readying for some new catastrophe. Last 9-11 certainly changed everything.

The same chill and painful throatache of shared grief flows over me as if it were yesterday. But there's also an old-ness to the shared resolve that we will persevere and cherish our freedoms as much as possible by simply *living*. This year, for the first time in 20 years, hubby and I plan to spend our anniversary out. We're not even sure where we're going. The memories and aftereffects are still fresh enough to make it a somber celebration. But, at least for the sake of the thousands of heroes who died on 9-ll and those who continue to fight for our freedoms, we can't let the evil-doers win.

Morgana

There are few times when something makes me speechless, I'm always ready and have a comment or two about things. This is the one exception, I really don't know what to say about it. I've sat and looked at a blank page now for hours. It seems I am torn on which road to take in expressing my thoughts on the start of the war a year ago today.

I guess that is as good a place to start as any. We are at war. Many members of the press seem to forget that we are at war, and try to refer to it in a kindler gentler PC reference of "tragedy". While yes, it's a tragedy and we can't and won't ever forget what happened to the victims, it is what it is, a war. We as a nation have done a great job to recognize those that were lost and have provided much for their families. I can only hope that during this long war and especially at the when the end of it does finally end, that we as a nation show that same respect and support for the soldiers that are now fighting this war of freedom.

It never ceases to amaze me how un supportive we as a nation have been when our military forces come home after risking their lives doing their jobs. Just as the men & women that were lost a year ago were also just doing their jobs. Please remember to show those folks the same respect when they come home, and especially for those who won't make it.
