A Few Random Thoughts

Every week I have tried to bring a smile to you all with a little bit of humor on page two called "A Few Random Thoughts". I don't know how well I succeeded in amusing anyone other than myself, those thoughts were always a bit skewed... but then *I* am a bit skewed myself. As it says every week; I live in my own little world... but it's ok, they know me here. :-)

This week I thought I'd give you some random thoughts about the past year and the DFN.

I have been thinking about the past year, and all the things that have gone on while I have been Editor of this newspaper.

One week from today is the one-year anniversary of the day our world changed forever. Nothing in my life has ever affected me the way that did. I hope nothing ever does again. I feel a bit numb to any news these days, I don't really want to know anymore... but I still watch, I can't stand to *not* know either.

My parents used to talk about Pearl Harbor. It was their 9/11. I understand that now. I'm glad they weren't around for two such events in their lives.

In November, I bought a car. Not a big deal, except I was able to buy a car with money I have made from being a Webmaster. I am becoming a successful Webmaster because of all the things I have learned from VNWR. I now have a good roof on my house, a decent car, and a lot of medical bills paid... all that porn paid for.

In January, I went to Internext in Los Vegas. I went as a representative of the Press... as Editor of the DFN. I have made contacts and improvements in my business that I would not normally have been able to do... because of VNWR.

During the year there were several trips by Old Tom and myself to visit Voltar, productive trips that I hope will continue to happen for a long time to come.

In June, we had the Weekend with Voltar. Another great learning experience. More articles for the DFN. It was at this weekend that I was able to finally start up the column of Webmaster interviews, something I had been planning for many months. I'd like to thank everyone who has participated in this so far, and hopefully there will be many more interesting interviews in the weeks and months to come.

Last month there was the trip to Florida for Internext, again as a representative of the DFN and VNWR, and once again, it was a fun experience.

The DFN has been in existence for one year and one month. It's doing pretty well, has lots of readers, lots of great information, lots of great writers. I feel almost like it was my baby. It will survive and continue. It will grow and get better. I truly am sorry that I won't be the one who keeps it going.

As of this issue, I am resigning as Editor. It's been a good year, but it's also been a long one. I need to eliminate some of the stress from my life. Something had to give, as there are only so many hours in a day... I'm not going away, I'm not giving up my business as a Webmaster. I will continue to be part of Voltar's newbie board.

I have loved being the DFN Editor and I am sure I will miss it very much. Thank you Voltar for the experience.

Wingnut has accepted the position of Editor of the DFN. I know he will enjoy it all, the good parts and the not so good. I hope you will all consider writing articles for him in the coming months. In order to make this a great newspaper, we have always needed your help. Congratulations to Wing, he'll do a great job!
