The Buzzword is Proactive

Platinum Pervert

By publishing day, the Webmaster Friendly Association will be nearly a week old and already growing steadily. For me, it's been an exciting time of seeing dreams moving forward. It would be all too easy for me to write an optimistic article saying that it would be nuts for folks to not jump on the WFA bandwagon. I probably could have if not for a gentle reminder.

You see, a new charter member shared a concern, "that some LL owners hadn't thought through ways to overcome some of the potential implications of suddenly changing a rule...". My answer to her was, "As business owners, each of us needs to decide our individual consequences of suddenly going webmaster friendly and how webmaster friendly we make our business." I also shared some of the risks that I have experienced over the past year, while building Platinum Pervert's membership:

- less submissions and more rejections
- loss of some networking/trade partners
- less traffic
- less bookmarkers
- building setbacks because of the change in building process.

For me, these risks were expected and, therefore, planned for. Other Platinum Pervert members have certainly felt some of the consequences of holding their ground to remain webmaster friendly.

Our exclusive links site, as well as other incentives, were meant to help them remain steadfast.

The bottom line decision to join WFA is a personal one. One of the reasons for our "no smash and bash" policy is that we are not here to pass judgement on folks who have decided that the risk(s) are too high for their own businesses. In fact, I still do network with folks who are not able to be more webmaster friendly. Ours is a business built on networking and, when something affects one of us it affects all of us. The many reasons why sales are down and our work harder have been discussed to death. The Webmaster Friendly Association will continue to be a proactive commitment of webmasters helping webmasters.

By all means, please do consider the risks of joining WFA. Also know that there are those who worked through those risks and will continue to chip away at them. Then, ask yourself if you can afford to NOT join the voices of the Webmaster Friendly Association. Unless you make enough to retire from the industry this year, I think not. The buzzword is "proactive" and the time to get moving is now.
