What VNWR & The DFN Has Done For Me
Short answer: Made me profitable.
Long answer:
Well, it really needs to be those three words, or a really loooong answer, but I'll do my best to keep it sensible. I came to VNWR in March '02, I'm writing this at the end of August '02, so I've nearly had six months on the board. What I have learnt in six months alone, would have taken me at least six years to learn without it. Throwaway line? No, I thought about it a long while before I wrote it. So why is it so good? hmmmmmmmm, I'll write enough that ought to convince a newbie, but it will barely scratch the surface.
I arrived at VNWR with around six free sites under my belt, all on free hosts, all built with Frontpage, all making the very occasional sale. In fact in two years I had banked about $450, but that was OK, it had cost me nothing. The first thing I did at the board, was cruise some posts, I had read through a lot of these style boards before, and immediately realized there was no flaming in evidence, that lifted my interest immediately.
Next I found the newbie tutorials for newbies, started reading, started printing, and carried on reading. This was followed by the NPOWS, now I was really excited, and pissed 'cos I'd run out of paper for the printer. I actually spent a week just sitting reading, and then re-reading what I had printed off. That is not my style normally, being male I never read the instructions for anything until I've broken it.
Next week was spent on teach yourself handcoding HTML, actually I was amazed to find that I got the basics down in under two days. Two of the most valuable days of my life I would say now. This was the point when I also started posting and asking completely inane questions, and that was the best bit yet. I didn't have to just milk this resource, run and get on with it, I could ask whatever I liked, no matter how stupid, and still get civil and speedy replies.
