How Long?

It's been a whole year of the DFN already?! It's hard to believe that is has been that long since we started this little E-zine. It's seems like yesterday since we started to craft what would eventually become the DFN. I remember some of the funny e-mails we all traded while coming up with the names of the weekly columns. We especially had fun with Pasta's page.

If any of you have ever worked on a type of project like the DFN you surely understand the effort it takes week after week. It might not seem like much on the surface (which is the way it is supposed look), but behind the scenes there is much to be done. Anything from chasing down article writers to formatting issues, did I mention chasing down article writers? :) None of which could be completed without having a great partner in crime to keep me on the straight path. Jojasa my editor, thank you for a great first year of working on the DFN.

As I reflect back on the past year and the events that happened within it I realize it has been and interesting year for sure. I think the one thing that stands out the most for me (from a business standpoint) is that many of the folks are still around that were here a year ago. In our business many people go as fast as they come and disappear back into the web, so it's a real testament for those of you that are still here working hard at your craft. I think that deserves a raise of the glass and a hearty "Hell Yeah", so heft a glass and "Hell Yeah!" with me.

The past year has had several opportunities to meet and network with other webmasters including two Internext events, with the third happing this weekend. Who could forget about the first ever WWV that occurred this summer? I know there are still people buzzing from that gathering! I know that many of us can't go to all of the events that are out there, but I do think it is well worth your effort to make a gathering. It doesn't have to be jet setting into Vegas and pimping yourself out either, there are many cheap ways to get yourself to a show/gathering.

We have also had to deal with some of the worst tragedies of modern history during this past year. We have and will continue to pull together to overcome the terror that grips much of the world today. Karma is a powerful energy and people will eventually get what they deserve. Enough said.

Innovation has also been on the radarscope this past year with the introduction of the Webmaster Friendly Association and it's charter to put the power of control back into the Webmaster's hands. The introduction of the PP5/PDA projects tap-dances right along on the bleeding edge of technology. TGP2 continues to grow and many TGP hybrids have arisen all with the intent of fewer freebies and more profits. As with any innovation/bleeding edge project there will always be the few that are out ahead of the curve, with the masses and naysayers behind them. Not to mention the folks who want the quick "fortune", but a fortune is never a quick adventure. Don't be left behind!

I've just scratched the surface of the weird, wild, exciting year we had at the DFN and VNWR, and I hope the DFN has been one of the pleasing memories you retain from it. I'm looking forward to another great year of the DFN and the adventure, entertainment and profit it brings us all.
