Interview with Wingnut

DFN: This week's interview is with Wingnut, Assistant Editor of the DFN Weekly. .

Lets get the real basic stuff first...
Wingnut My name is Wingnut, I'm 35 and I live in the center of the universe, Dayton Ohio.

DFN: Why did you pick the nick, Wingnut?
Wingnut It comes from being a hardcore hockey nut, more specifically a Detroit Redwings fan. My house is full of Redwings memorabilia, most of the casual clothes I wear have the Wing'd wheel somewhere on them. So my friends started calling me wingnut and it stuck.

DFN: How often do you try new building ideas, or using new sponsors?
Wingnut I try to do something new every week, but at times it can be daily. To me that is one of the best ways to find golden nuggets that add to the bank deposits. Sponsors I try new ones every month, it's a great way to reuse content for new site types.

DFN: And how often do you build new sites?
Wingnut Between all varieties of sites and pages it boils down to about 5 days a week I'm building new sites. I spend one day working on the DFN and one day working around the house.

DFN: We know you are always busy... about how many hours a week are you able to put into your business?
Wingnut I work at this part time, but it works out to more hours then my full time job. I spend between 40 and 50 hours a week working on my business.

DFN: Do you do everything by hand? or do you use some scripts to automate your work?
Wingnut Yes. LMAO don't you hate one word answers? I love a good script that can save time but it must allow me to use much of my own hand coded html. I use scripts and also hand-build free sites as well as tgp pages. I hand submit to link lists SE's and some TGP's. I autosubmit to the tgp's that allow it.

DFN: Do you have any tips for us on how you stay focused and organized working for yourself?
WingnutOh yeah sure ... who do you think I am Zig Ziglar? I always think I suck at organization, but people tell me I'm very structured. I did an article for the DFN on what I call the P.A.I.D method which stands for Prioritize Attack Implement Duplicate. It's my way of taking the 103 things I want to get done and put them into smaller chunks that are easier to complete from start to finish. Then I do the process over and over again. It works for me .. your mileage may vary.

DFN: Can you touch on how and why you got involved into this industry, and how long you have been doing it?
Wingnut I started out doing a mainstream site after my day job started to use web based technology. I wanted to have a working knowledge of the technology and now it's turned into something I enjoy working with.

I've been doing this almost three years now but the first year or so it was really more of a hobby then a business. Now this is a business that I work had to grow and profit from.

I've always had an interest in computers which is how I wound up in my day job. I actually came across the owners manual to my first computer .. a Timex Sinclair 1000, what a dinosaur that one was. I think the TV remote has more memory then that thing did. :)

DFN: Where do you see yourself in one year and several years from now?
Wingnut One year I'd like to be paying myself more then I am now. The past year has been more investing in the future then the immediate rewards, setting up for the future was part of the business plan. In several years I'd like to grow the business enough to be able to secure my family's future.

DFN: What area in terms of site building do you specialize in, if any?
Wingnut I build for what ever content I have. I don't have any specialties but I seem to better in niches that don't do anything for me personally. Go figure.

DFN: What do you consider to be your strengths in this business?
Wingnut I always hated these types of questions growing up, but my strength would be my ability to adapt and learn new things. I love to take on a challenge and see it through to the end. The learning process that happens along the way is a great rush.

DFN: What do you consider your 3 best niches?
Wingnut Watersports, Ebony and Tits.

DFN: What is the best advice you were given when you were first getting started in this industry and what advice could you give a newbie just starting out these days?
Wingnut Most advice I got when I first started hurt me in the long run. That was back in the day when blind click programs were all over the place and all you had to do was get the surfer to click. The best advice I have been given and would pass along is to filter filter filter your traffic. Without filtered traffic all you have is a bunch of clicks and no sales.

DFN: What do you think is the worst thing going on with the future of our industry right now? ...and what is the best?
Wingnut The worst thing happening right now is the influx of browsers and programs that deter from tracking and giving credit to the sales associates that are working hard for the sales. In the long term the processors, paysite owners and affiliates will be hurt with this. I'd like to see a more agressive approach to resolve this issue.

The best thing in our future? The movement to reduce the amount of free porn we give away. It's refreshing to see webmasters starting to understand free stuff should just be samples.

DFN: And finally... do you have a URL you want to plug?
Wingnut Pornn Palace
