Are you out building yourself?

You know there are many great things and advances coming out daily in the computer field and internet. They are wonderful and quite the attention getters. They are also on average very costly and involves new equiptment or at the very least a software install or upgrade. People are by their nature, lazy. If something works and they are confortable with it, they don't change it until they have to. Sure there are a small persentage who try everything, and as webmasters you are more likely to be in that group. You are of a more technical nature that the average surfer.

But when you build you have to remember that most of these things are not out there for the people in mass. You have to build for what is there, not what is in the future. After all its sales you want to make now, not to wait 3 years from now for them. And the 3 year time span is an accurate one.

According to a study from the market research firm IDC, 2/3rds of the installed base of PC computers worldwide is 3 years old or more.

When you build take this into account. Make your sites user friendly and don't eleminate over half of the traffic you will get if you build for the base of computers out there now. Computers are rarely forward compatable, but in most cases are reverse compatible. That means old computers can't read and use the new stuff you would build with. But building with raw HTML, you build for the future computers and systems, as well as the past and present ones. You profits will be much higher if you do.
