The Truth Really is Out There, Honest!

Conspiracy meets the adult web world.
In late 1999, I was in the second of two serious accidents, the first was six months before a double broadside car accident which caused a dual compression fracture in my neck, nearly paralyzing my arms, and one vertebrae short of killing me. The second was at work, while climbing under a desk installing a PC, which was very much against doctor's orders, but the choice between starving and doing what the CEO said, I had little choice.

One week later I was on LOA for workman's comp, and in a great deal of pain. But still able to at least sit at my home terminal and use one hand. The other... they never knew if it would return, thus cutting my present career short. I needed new options; I had always enjoyed the adult industry working as a Strip Club manager after the army, marrying a dancer, working in adult films in front and behind the camera. It was something I enjoyed. I was also a skilled program and graphics artist even one handed.

So I dove into the adult webmaster world. I knew nothing of the online world, but I knew I could program, I had a willing and eager model still attached by a ring, why not give it a whorl. I started reading site after site after site. Tom's Newbie Board, Netpond, YNOT... They all contained tons of data for me to process. Eventually I found Web Overdrive and signed up as a tutor.

By posting around I made some early friends. Headless was one of my first mentors and guides pointing me to sites to read. Then I met Sin. Being a NIN (nine inch nails for you old folks) fan, and their song sin (can't really call it a song but hey it has its own track) I started talking to Sin. He seemed such a wise webmaster in the business, selling content, and building sites. We talked for a while, and he agreed to take me under his wing, mentor me, and teach me the ways to really make money. We talked many a night for many an hour.

One of the first "secrets" he told me was; "all those resource sites are full of nothing but bullshit. They are built by the wealthy and the elite of the webmasters. They are built to train the new generation how to make just enough money to keep them interested. They are really there to make the big boys bigger.

We're already at the second stage of this massive brainwashing, you're even now starting to see resource sites created by the now graduated protégé, spilling forth the same propaganda that was taught to them".

I was overwhelmed at first. I couldn't believe it! All the nice great helpful people, they were really here to stop me from making money? They just wanted ME to make "them" money? He made point after point. It became more and more "clear" that he was right.

2002
Here I am, two years later, healed from the physical wounds. After two years of designing, building, working sometimes 30 hours straight; 1000's of sites under my belt. Where did I go wrong? What was my mistake? I did everything Sin said. To the letter, building like he said, submitting where he said, using the sponsors he recommended. We lost touch about nine months ago but I was over $20k poorer and making barely $500 a month on my best months.

I've learned where I went wrong, the really hard way. I didn't listen; I didn't listen to the resources; to the helpful sponsors, to all the mailing lists and talk shows. I had been seduced into a small group of webmasters that were the ones "really" doing it right. But after time I noticed, none of us were making any real money. One by one we all disappeared for financial reasons, all too broke to continue.

Now, back on my feet again, I am starting again, starting over, rebuilding. But this time, I am listening. I have met few good people (THANK YOU VOLTAR AND TOM AND SNOOPS!) and I am listening to them and more, not depending on one main area of information. Not just one site. I am looking for common information, information being said by more then one place. I am learning how to properly test and get results.

The truth is out there!
