The Meaning of Life

I was inspired to write this article after seeing another round of searching for the so called holy grail of adult webmastering. The answers to questions akin to the meaning of life. The type only the one with the question can truly answer for oneself.

There has not been an adult webmaster or at least successful one who has not wondered "How many hits do I need to...?" Or the ever popular "How many sites must I build to make X amount of dollars?" Perhaps a few of the most nagging questions that in the end only experience can provide the answers to.

The answers are as individual as the presenter of the question. For none of us can truly know the answer until we have arrived at that level. Having seen first hand what brought us there. This takes time experimentation and determination. Finding our strong points and areas and growing and expanding upon them and using them to bring us to the next level. The mantra "build submit repeat" holds true. But make sure you are repeating what works as well as trying new things often once you have the basics down and establish a sense of routine.

We start small sending a few hits to a sponsor and wonder. Down the road we are sending a few hundred and wonder again. Then a thousand. If hypothetically all sponsors on average converted at 1 in 1000 we would expect to see a sale for every thousand hits. But generally those hits tend to be spread over many different sites and niches.

In the same 1 in 1000 case you could in fact send 999 hits to every site before seeing one sale. Now that would be far fetched but it still falls within our ratio provided you make several more sales immediately following. But this is simply to show that even from the mathematical standpoint results will vary widely.

"Sometimes it pays to stay in bed on Monday, rather than spending the rest of the week debuging Monday's code."
Dan Salomon

Now in the real world a good unsaturated sponsor these days can still pull a 1 in 100 or so ratio done properly. Again that takes know how born from experience and or the luck of being one of the first to find that sponsor. And most average sponsors will convert at the 1 in 1000 range or better. So you should`nt have to send a billion hits to make a sale though don`t expect to see them come flying in either.

It still takes work to get those visitors to entice into clicking and hope they buy. As has been said the best fair way to judge a sponsor for yourself is to send around 10,000 decent quality hits in and then tally results. If you`ve got 10 sales or better then your doing okay. It is really a matter of numbers and in the end the number with the dollar sign is the only one that matters!

All this amounts to alot of variables and we have not even talked about different traffic sources and and the nuances of building and sales. All of which is learned by doing. A step at a time. Like a template for a site the best any other person can do for you is set a template for learning. A proven path that with proper investment of resources can be used to succeed. There are no rules only guidelines.

If you truly want to lay down some goals work toward them and desire to succeed. You should one day have answered those questions for yourself. And if you are reading this you already have access to quite possibly the best resource ever for adult webmasters to draw guidance from. Never before has it been laid out so plainly. You just have to take it a step at a time. Dig in and learn. One level of understanding at a time.

In the meantime keep building and know that each answer usually only brings new questions. But that`s a good thing. Oh... and when you find the meaning of life would you let me in on it! :)
