You Can Be On Top

You can reference Robbos Climb to the Top Part 1 , Part 2.

Last week we set up the variables that control the way Autorank functions. Part 1 is here. Hopefully you can get through the scripts write tests and getting to the logon screen. The admin will allow you to format your pages and perform the administrative functions of the script. I won't go into great detail, the admin form fields don't function but you can scroll through the various features. You will need to generate all of your html via the script. Regardless of a particular webmasters pages, the layouts are tabled layouts. I would highly suggest just building your pages in an editor first and get it to the way you think you want it. I like the way CGI Works has their template interface broken up into header, template and footer sections. Just keep in mind your tabled ranking. Just split your html in half, with a comment tags;

<!--Begin Template-->
<!--End Template-->

Anything above *Begin* goes in your header section anything below *End* goes in the footer section. Just like anything you need to get a feel the way script builds pages.

The template itself needs to be enclosed in

<tr><td></td></tr>IMHO, I would keep the template basic Rank, Previous, Title and Description, In, and Out. Once you get a feel for the script add more variables to the template.

The script provides you provisions to add some of your own advertising with the list breaks. You need to set your breaks up in the variables and options section of the script. The list break could be another toplist, or sponsor link banner or text link just enclose your advertising within

<tr><td>advertising</td></tr> This would be a good place for a banner rotation script that utilizes a SSI/CGI call. :) You decide.

All things considered, I thought this was a pretty easy script to set up. One of many Toplist scripts available to webmasters. I tried signing up with list site pro, (adult) applications were not being accepted. I've heard a lot of good things although limited in cheat protection, which is always a big concern. Like anything else do your homework and ask questions of your fellow webmasters.

I caught a portion of Sharky's show Monday night. I didn't hear who mentioned but I did hear the url. Since it fit with this weeks article Epower Trader This looks *extremely* cool. From the documentation available it's written in PHP with a MYSQL backend for the database. This baby has some full fledged features of a trade script. Trading based on productivity or a fixed ratio return. Various script links for linking to your various trades. Detailed stats and Logs. Some heavy duty cheat protection. Throw in a $150.00 price tag, it's going to be very interesting to see how the script and sales progress in the coming months. The site list is small at this point, IMHO it's to early to tell how the script will perform, how the tech support will fair if problems arise.

The easy decisions to make is what script to use and setting it up. The hard part will be chasing traffic and submissions for your toplist.
