Tick Tock Tick Tock

The playoff race is in full swing and headed for the homestretch this week. The regular season ends on April 14th and most teams with less than ten games remaining.

What this means to all the teams is there is less then 20 points available to get into the playoffs with. This would be if they win all remaining games, which in reality you hope to get 50% of the wins or 10 points.

Now, take a peek at the standings in the next column. If you gander at the Western Conference, you will see that just 5 points separate Dallas in 9th positions (and out of the playoffs) and 4th place L.A.. What this means is if you can catch a Western Conference game between now and the 14th .. DO IT! Total entertainment watching these games. It also means that one team will make it into the playoffs by playing extremely well the last two weeks. That team (whoever they might be) will be a contender for knocking out a top seeded team. It doesn't happen every year, but it does happen most years when the playoff race is this close. No predictions from me on this one .. it's just to close to call who is or isn't going to make it.

In injury news and potential end to the playoff hopes of the New York Rangers, their goalie Mike Richter suffered a skull fracture this week. He was hit twice in the head while making saves in a game this week against Nashville. Now here is the crazy part .. they expect him to be out two weeks. Two Weeks!! It amazes me how large of a pain threshold a hockey player has. Till next week ... get those playoff beards going :^)
