Two Cents Worth

Like most things in this business - nothing is really hard to learn, but learning one thing is dependent on learning the next, but it is not always in that order. lol As newbie’s we tend to put the “cart before the horse“, we want to “run before we walk” and all of those cliches. I can see it happen with some of the newcomers to VNWR, but it didn’t stop me from doing the same thing when I set off on a non adult venture.

Armed with what I’ve learned here at VNWR and the adult industry, I set off on a project to promote Long Island. The project wasn’t promoting Long Island per se, it was a vehicle to work with google ad sense program, and other non adult affiliate programs. I had a good understanding of what needed to be done, but there’s always something new to research and learn.

With the summer approaching, I thought it would be good to start with vacation places. I live on Long Island, there are many summer vacation spots and tourist attractions, and the State beaches are celebrating their 75th anniversary, so it seemed like a good place to start.

I thought I knew LI like the back of my hand. I’ve canoed on it’s rivers, walked it’s beaches and hiked it’s trails- it wasn’t until I started this project did I realized how much I DIDN’T know about it! Not that this was a waste of time, but I spent much more time than I should have learning about Long Island, and that changed how I was going to approach building this site.

This was going to be bigger than I had originally planned. I started mapping out the site, complete with which advertising would go on a page down to where I would submit the pages. Now there’s nothing wrong with a good business plan and I believe this was a good one - but… talk about putting the “cart before the horse” I started working on where I would submit the pages, and they weren’t even built yet!

This project seemed to grow each time I looked at it, and I was starting to get overwhelmed by it. I seemed an impossible task to finish, that’s when I realized this project couldn’t be finished all at once. I needed to organize the site so that it could be functional and stay within the guidelines of the affiliate programs, yet I need to be able to add to it without disrupting or changing the site. My problem was that there are so many “niches, sub niches and microniches” I didn’t know what to include and what to leave out. I still haven’t decided yet, but I’ve found a comfortable layout, and I‘ll see how it works. At least I could apply to the affiliate programs and get that set up and also get a couple of pages to the SE. So with everything in place, now is the hardest part, waiting for it to kick in. I know it will take awhile, but I’m anxious to see the results - good or bad.

I’ll be continuing to work on this project and others like it, it’s another way to diversify business, and besides they’re fun, easy and hopefully profitable.

Just my two cents.
