Out of Necessity

If you're like me you're fortunate enough to have one of those hectic schedules. Here one minute, going out of town the next. One of my favorite NPOWs, which I might have gone overboard with is this one I tailored it to my needs, I was getting tired of missing a file I needed to complete what I was currently working on. Forgetting to update my laptop with my latest "sites" folder before leaving, or just having the wrong shit all together. Organization is one of my better qualities. You can use this page "The Pit" as a template. The key to organizing your webmaster information is updating, in particular sponsor codes, submit urls, and useful pieces of code. Don't update and you risk not getting paid and not having the correct info when you need it. Having a cool laptop less your webmaster info :)

I want to share an experience I had today. This pertains to all businesses. There is nothing more that gets me extremely perturbed and that's when my integrity gets challenged. I am sure anyone involved in sales "shakes bushes" on a daily basis. Customers closing their doors, customer's business real slow whatever. You're "shaking bushes" for new business. I happened to come across some new business a few weeks in the making. We had a final design review and today I was to finalize my numbers with the purchasing agent. What an eye opener! The first 10 minutes he proceeded to tell me how *he* conducts business on big orders and his expectations of a service provider. Which was quite creative I might add.

Prior to the meeting I had some of *his* suppliers contact me/us and they eluded to the fact we would be awarded the bid and in the same breath would make doing business very attractive for *me*. WTF??

They were assuming that I would be ecstatic because .. Let me paint a picture ... A 45% discount on $280K of a particular product, 25% cash to Pasta, and the business would get a 20% discount on the parts. Cool huh? :/

Mr. Salesmen, out of the blue would make it worth my while. I knew where this was going, insinuating what I should do, and knew I would do the *right* thing. He didn't care if our numbers were in line, didn't care if we could deliver on time, just wanted to assure that we purchased product, expensive product, from one of his buddies. He was more then willing to hand me cash, dangling a carrot!

I have never paid for business, you know "Pay to Play", providing perks for business. I don't think it's conducive to good business ethics. I didn't know working for a company while in the position of rewarding business to companies that provide services entailed "What can you do for me personally?". I am sure everyone is aware that this goes on, just listen to the news, but what about the ramifications if the gift backfires? Do you take into consideration lost revenue and more importantly reputation "upon receipt of order"? All I know is that I want to be able to sleep at night. I don't want to have to worry about covering my ass because someone handed me $70k cash.

To put this day into perspective I leave you this to think about: Even in these recessionary times if you build one bridge would you be considered a bridge builder? Probably not! But if you suck one cock, you will definitely be considered a cock sucker! Just to clear up any confusion you might have ... Pasta Don't Suck Cock!
